Ram Island Light Station, located just south of Boothbay Harbor, Maine was commissioned in 1883. Today it is under the care and conservation of the Grand Banks Schooner Museum Trust (GBSMT), a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. The United State Coast Guard maintains the aid to navigation. The museum maintains the grounds, keepers house, out buildings, walkway to the tower and the tower itself. The GBSMT has done this diligently since 1983.

In 1998 through the Lighthouse Selection Program, 32 Maine lights were given by the Federal government to deserving entities. At that time the GBSMT was chosen to be the non-profit organization to care for the Ram Island Light Station in perpetuity. We gladly accepted this responsibility on behalf of the public and for the public benefit.

Today the Sherman Zwicker is in the capable hands of the Maritime Foundation and is moored at Pier 25 in the Hudson River in NYC. There you can visit the vessel and go below decks to view historic displays or enjoy fine food & drink on deck. Either way it is a unique experience and the Sherman Zwicker continues its maritime history by educating the pubic about its past adventures in the North Atlantic.

The Grand Banks Schooner Museum Trust is the former steward of the F/V Sherman Zwicker. The Zwicker, built in 1942 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, attended many tall ships celebrations and was restored to her original sea worthy operational condition for decades. The museum utilized a dedicated volunteer crew to enable the vessel to visit ports from St. John's Newfoundland to New York City. In 1986 for instance we attended the rededication of the Statue of Liberty.
